We found great food, local ales, and warm welcomes for us and our dogs.

Many visitors book dog-friendly cottages in Bamburgh, making it easy to walk to these restaurants in the evening.
We visited with our golden retrievers, Henry and Bandit, to experience the best spots, not just to eat and drink, but to see which places truly welcome dogs inside.
From seafood feasts at The Potted Lobster to laid-back drinks at the Lord Crewe, these dog-friendly places make dining out with your pup an absolute treat.
Top Dog Friendly Places to Eat in Bamburgh
From shelled mussels to sticky toffee pudding, these top dog-friendly places to eat in Bamburgh serve up delicious food, local flavours, and a warm welcome.
It’s a mix of restaurants and food-serving pubs – but if you’re specifically after a pint, then some of the best dog-friendly pubs in Bamburgh can be found here.
01 — The Potted Lobster
If you’re after top-quality seafood in Bamburgh and want your four-legged friend to be properly welcomed, The Potted Lobster is the place.
They’ve got a dedicated dog-friendly section, and the staff were straight over to greet Henry and Bandit like VIP guests.
We went all in on the seafood, sharing Shetland mussels in a rich white wine sauce (extra bread was a must), but there are solid non-seafood options, too.
The vibe was lively but relaxed; the service was bang on, and we’d return in a heartbeat.

02 — The Victoria Hotel
The Victoria Hotel’s restaurant is a smart, well-run spot that balances a relaxed atmosphere with a more formal dining setup. We only had breakfast here, but we saw plenty of families enjoying dinner in the bar area during our evening drinks.
The menu leans on classic British dishes, using local produce where possible, and the dining room itself is beautifully decorated, definitely more polished than the bar. Unfortunately no dogs allowed in there.
Breakfast was fully dog-friendly, with a buffet for cereals and pastries plus a cooked menu, the coffee was great, and the Full English nice.
03 — The Copper Kettle Tea Rooms
The Copper Kettle Tea Rooms is a proper dog-friendly café in the heart of Bamburgh village, serving homemade cakes, scones, and classic tearoom fare.
Dogs aren’t just tolerated, they’re welcomed with fuss, treats, and plenty of space to settle.
We tucked into a warm fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, a huge slice of coffee, hazelnut cake, and properly brewed tea in pots.
The menu also offers hearty options like pan haggerty pie, kipper rolls, and jacket potatoes, making it a great spot for more than just cake.

04 — The Middle Inn
The Middle Inn is one of Bamburgh’s most dog-friendly spots, and our February visit proved it.
With a roaring fire in the corner, a laid-back atmosphere, and dogs welcome anywhere, it’s an easy choice for a relaxed lunch. Free dog treats on the bar, plus dog-friendly ice cream for sale, add to the charm.
The massive beer garden is perfect for warmer months, though water bowls are only at the back, which isn’t ideal in winter.
Service was great despite only one chef working, and our food arrived in under 10 minutes.
More to Come!
This page is just getting started.
We’re only including places we’ve visited with Henry and Bandit, so right now, Bamburgh has some of Northumberland’s top rated dog-friendly restaurants and cafés.
But there’s plenty more to explore.
As we spend more time here, we’ll keep adding first-hand experiences, whether it’s a new place serving top-notch Sunday lunches, a hidden gem café with the best homemade cakes, or a restaurant that truly welcomes dogs, not just tolerates them.
No generic lists, no second-hand info, just real reviews from real visits.
