Dog-Friendly Middle Inn Bamburgh: Our Visit & Review

We visited The Middle Inn in Bamburgh for lunch with Henry and Bandit.

We were looking for a warm, welcoming pub where we could relax after a walk, and this place certainly delivered.

From the moment we stepped in, dogs were part of the picture – water bowls at the ready, friendly staff, and a cosy pub atmosphere perfect for recharging.

Watch the video below to join us, two hungry humans and two golden retrievers, as we test out the pub, the food, and the dog-friendliness for ourselves. It’s cosy, it’s lively, and yes, there was a lot to like.

Arriving at The Middle Inn

The Middle Inn is one of the most popular dog-friendly pubs in Bamburgh, with white pebble-dashed walls, grey borders, and cottage-style windows.

The front entrance is pretty and well-maintained, and we almost missed the walkway leading to a huge beer garden at the back.

A couple of dog-friendly signs outside reassured us that we’d picked the right place, including one that advertised dog-friendly ice cream, a nice touch.

Inside, we were greeted by a roaring fire in the corner, making the pub feel really warm and cosy, which was perfect for a chilly February afternoon.

Dog-Friendly Policy & Atmosphere

🐶 Dogs Allowed Everywhere – Unlike some pubs that restrict dogs to certain areas (The Potted Lobster has a dog-friendly section only), at The Middle Inn, you can sit anywhere.

🐶 Free Dog Treats – A jar of biscuits sat on the bar, free for dog owners to help themselves.

🐶 Water Bowls – But at the Back – There were no water bowls at the front, but a beer barrel water station with bowls was tucked away in the beer garden. Not ideal in winter, but useful for summer visits.

Dog-Friendly Ice Cream – Available to buy, a nice extra for warmer days.

🐶 Lots of Dogs Inside – Always a good sign that a place is genuinely dog-friendly rather than just saying so.

We secured a spacious corner table with plenty of room for Henry and Bandit to stretch out.

Ordering & Service

There was only one person serving behind the bar when we arrived, but they were lovely and working hard.

They let us know there was only one chef working, so food could take 30 minutes or more.

However, our meals arrived in under 10 minutes, much quicker than expected.

Meanwhile, the restaurant side had loads of staff, making service there feel even smoother.

Food & Drink

The Middle Inn served exactly what we were after, simple, satisfying pub food in a dog-friendly setting. If you’re after something a bit different while you’re in the area, we’ve also tried other great places to eat with dogs in Bamburgh.

We ordered:

  • 🍔 Double Cheeseburger – Good-sized portion, well-cooked, and came with fries.
  • 🥔 Jacket Potato with Prawns (Liane’s) – Fresh, filling, and came with a generous amount of topping.
  • 🍺 A couple of pints – Nice selection of local beers available on tap.

The food was good pub grub, exactly what you’d expect, nothing overly fancy, but good quality and filling.

I think the total bill was £37, not bad really for lunch in such a busy holiday village.

The Beer Garden & Extra Space

The beer garden at the back is huge, with enough seating for at least 100 people.

There’s also a massive orangery-style extension, which looks like it could hold even more in peak season.

Final Thoughts – Would We Go Back?

Absolutely.

The Middle Inn is one of the most relaxed and welcoming dog-friendly pubs we’ve tried, with good food, a warm atmosphere, and plenty of space inside.

If you’re spending time in the village, it’s an easy place to stop for lunch or a drink after a beach walk or castle visit. Just be prepared for the seasonal rush if you’re visiting Bamburgh in summer.
