Dog-Friendly Bamburgh Castle Inn: Our Visit & Review
We visited The Bamburgh Castle Inn with our kids and two golden retrievers and were impressed.
- August 5, 2026
It’s a really popular dog-friendly pub in Seahouses with coastal views, and also one of the best dog-friendly hotels in all of Seahouses if you want to make a night of it.

We filmed our visit so you can see exactly what to expect. From sea views to dog-friendly touches, this short video shows why it’s a great stop after a beach walk.
In the video: outdoor seating, dog bowls, treat jars, and what we ordered.
Some of the Best Sea Views You'll Find
We visited Seahouses for the day with our two kids and two golden retrievers, seeking a dog-friendly spot to enjoy a meal. Opted for the Bamburgh Castle Inn; don’t let the name confuse you.
It’s located right in the heart of Seahouses, on the harbour, with stunning views of the coastline and fishing boats.
Central for parking, we parked in the car park a minute’s walk away.
Upon arrival, it’s hugely impressive, with its well-designed signage and the way it’s built overlooking the harbour.
You can sit outside on split levels, relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the best views of the harbour here.
Plenty of space outside to sit, dog bowls of water on offer; however, the weather changed, and we headed inside to eat.

What's It Like Inside? Welcoming Staff, Roomy Spaces & Dog Perks
The Bamburgh Castle Inn is very impressive as you enter its large, airy premises, which offer plenty of seating for both large groups and smaller tables.
You have two large bars with complimentary jars of dog treats, accompanied by dog bowls stacked up. If you’re staying at the Bamburgh Castle Inn, those same dog-friendly touches extend to the rooms, making it an easy place to check in after a coastal walk.
Water fountains for you to get fresh water for your dogs and take to your table – this was a lovely touch. Lots of others had their furry friends in tow!
It’s a very typical British-style pub inside, clean, comfortable, light, and modern, very well-maintained.
Sit anywhere inside and out with your dogs. The staff are welcoming, and there was plenty of room for our two dogs to settle and stretch out for a nap.
We looked at the menu. We chose a table inside, overlooking the harbour. It’s such a joy looking out to sea and watching the boats as you relax inside.
Food, Drink & What We Ordered
The menu is varied, offering a range of typical British hearty pub grub options. I was disappointed to find we had just missed the carvery, which looked lovely, but finished at 5; it was ten past by the time we arrived!
I ordered sausage and mash. It was a fair portion of Cumberland sausage with mash, gravy, and veg. It was pleasant.
My son ordered seafood pasta. He said it was a little bland.
The other ordered chicken nuggets and chips. She is not my most adventurous child when it comes to food. She covered it in ketchup and enjoyed it.
My husband, the real foodie of the pack, ordered the steak and ale pie with chips. He wasn’t blown away. He said it was dry and was hoping for a bit better.
He ate it, so we cannot complain.
His portion was on the small side; he should have made it in time for the carvery!
Suppose there was room for dessert!
I did spot vegetarian options, and, as I mentioned, a kids menu was also available.
The Beer Garden Perched Over the Harbour
The best bit is the outdoor seating area, with a lovely balcony offering views over the harbour.
Go up a few steps and stretch out onto another level, where the views over Seahouses are stunning.
Enjoy a drink and plenty of fresh air! On a summer’s night, the sunset would be spectacular from here.
Practical Tips for Dog Owners
Parking options – a central Seahouses car park is nearby, just a short walking distance away.
Dogs are allowed inside and outside – no restrictions. Sit where you want with your dogs; it’s very welcoming!
Toilets (incl. Disabled access and baby change)
Ideal for stopping after beach walks, Farne Island tours, or browsing the village shops, as the location is bang in the centre of the harbour.
Final Thoughts
Dog-friendliness rating: relaxed, well set up. We love the individual dog bowls and water fountains, as well as the complimentary dog treats – ours had a few!
Good food options, generous space, and friendly service.
Ideally located for a post-walk or post-beach meal. For dog owners planning a short break, the Bamburgh Castle Inn is a handy base right on Seahouses harbour, with dog-friendly rooms as well as the pub.
I would come back, especially for drinks and the views.
