After spending a day exploring Warkworth with our two Golden Retrievers, we were ready to relax and enjoy a meal.
We fancied proper pub grub and wanted a place where we could bring our dogs and feel genuinely welcome.
We opted for The Mason’s Arms, as you can park right outside and the larger village car park is only moments away. The pub has come up in plenty of conversations about the best restaurants for dogs so we were keen to try it for ourselves.
If you’re looking to stay nearby, these handpicked dog-friendly cottages in Warkworth are all within easy reach.
Watch our quick look inside The Masons Arms and what it’s like visiting with two golden retrievers in tow.
Additionally, there’s a large sign outside advertising that they are dog-friendly. It is located in the centre of the village, with Warkworth Castle overlooking the River Coquet, and the village croquet lawn just a short walk away. If you are coming from the beach, it’s only a short walk into the village.
The Masons Arms had been recommended to us by a local walking her dog on the beach. We got chatting, and I mentioned my teenage son was starving as they always are! She said we wouldn’t be disappointed.
Here’s everything we found.
The Masons Arms is your typical British-style pub, lots of seating areas, a long sweeping bar through the middle, stone floors, a very traditional and warm atmosphere and a big beer garden out the back you sit wherever you want with your dog, and it’s mixed with locals and people trying for the first time, like us.

The staff were friendly and showed us a table with lots of room for the dogs to stretch out and settle while we pored over the extensive menu.
All your typical choices, homemade curries, burgers, fish and chips, all kinds, but what made the place extra special for us was the dog menu!
They could have given snacks, small meals, and even doggy ales! A superb touch; I felt so relaxed being there with our two big dogs.
On the bar is a jar filled with dog treats; you’re welcome to help yourself to some. There are also dog bowls of fresh water. Straight away, I knew we had made the right choice. Very warm and friendly locals next to us recommended the loaded burger for my son, which he loved.
We visited during the summer, and it was a beautiful evening. After our meal, we headed into the beer garden, where we enjoyed coffee. There’s numerous seating areas and a pizzeria that cooks outdoors.
There are signs everywhere advertising muddy boots and dogs welcome. I can only imagine it’s a great, cosy spot during the colder months to come and enjoy a hot meal after a brisk walk on Warkworth beach with the dog. I want to come back and try their Sunday lunches after a lovely dog walk, as one of the locals said they are super!
Warkworth has far more to offer than one excellent pub. Between the castle, riverside walks and beach, it’s easy to spend a full day here. If you want the best things to do around Warkworth with your dog, start here.
Sound, practical advice for dog owners:
Public parking at the door! – Village car park or street parking options are limited. If the car park is full, there’s parking by the river, a 2-minute walk to The Masons Arms.
Gets popular at peak times (especially Sundays) – book ahead for food. We didn’t book, but it can be popular, so it’s best to avoid disappointment.
The pub is open 7 days – dogs are welcome all day when the bar is open.
All on-site toilets are accessible, and the area is flat.
An ideal stop on a walk around Warkworth village, or on a beach circuit, or after visiting Warkworth Castle.
