Dog-Friendly Rolling Pin Alnwick: Our Visit & Review
If you’re exploring Alnwick with your dog, chances are you’ll end up on Narrowgate.
- August 25, 2026
This main street links the Market Place to Alnwick Castle, and it’s where you’ll find one of our favourite dog-friendly tea rooms: The Rolling Pin.
The bright purple front is hard to miss, and on sunny days, the outdoor tables fill up with people enjoying coffee, lunch, or homemade cake. We often pass by when we’re in town or heading to the River Aln, so it’s become one of our favourite spots to take a break.
A Great Stop for Dog Owners
One of the best things about The Rolling Pin is the outdoor seating. You order inside, and then your drinks and food are brought out to your table on Narrowgate. This makes it much easier if you have your dog with you.
It’s a great spot to relax, especially when the town is busy. We liked watching people walk by while Henry settled next to the table, patiently hoping someone would drop a bit of cake.
The staff were friendly, and dogs were made to feel welcome. Visitors often mentioned that water was available for dogs too. It’s just the kind of independent café you hope to find during a day in Alnwick.
What's on the Menu?
The Rolling Pin offers the kind of food you’d expect from a traditional tea room, so it’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon treat.
The menu includes:
- Toasties and paninis
- Fresh sandwiches
- Homemade soup
- Cream teas
- Homemade cakes and traybakes
- Scones
- Tea, coffee and speciality hot chocolates
The homemade cakes were one of the first things we noticed. The counter was full of brownies, honeycomb tiffin, millionaire’s shortbread, flapjack, and lots of other traybakes. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

Final Thoughts
We’ve tried quite a few dog-friendly cafés across Northumberland, and The Rolling Pin is definitely one we’d recommend. It doesn’t try to do anything fancy. Instead, it serves good coffee, homemade cakes, and light lunches in a relaxed place where dogs are truly welcome.
If you’re in Alnwick with your dog for a few hours, we’d happily suggest stopping here. Whether you want a quick coffee, some lunch, or just a slice of cake before exploring more, it’s one of those little places that makes your day out even better.
