Our Dog-Friendly Adventures So Far

What we’ve done and places you might love too. Planning activities is easier when you can see what’s worked for other dog owners. That’s our thought process anyhow! Every guide here comes from real trips we’ve taken with our dogs, from windswept castles to private rock pools, so you can get a genuine feel for what each spot is like. These are some of our favourite places we’ve taken the dogs to in Northumberland:

Beaches

After a combined 6-7 hours and four visits to Bamburgh Beach, we can confidently say it’s one of the best dog-friendly beaches we’ve ever visited.

Castles

We’d heard that dogs were allowed throughout the site, not just in the grounds, so we wanted to explore every nook and cranny, picnic in the shade, and find out for ourselves.

Castles

We’d heard dogs were welcome in the grounds and outdoor café but not inside the castle itself, so we wanted to find out if it was still worth visiting with two very eager golden retrievers.

Walks

Around 9 miles west of Morpeth, it has woodland paths, open grassy areas, and a lakeside circuit that is well suited to dog walkers, families, pushchairs, and anyone after a gentle walk.

Rockpools

If you’ve ever wandered around Amble Harbour Village, you’ll know it’s brilliant for local produce and a bit of a mooch. But if you’re visiting with dogs, it can be a bit much. It gets hectic quickly.

Beaches

It sits within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and connects directly to the Northumberland Coast Path.
