Craster is one of Northumberland’s most recognisable coastal villages, known for its harbour and traditional oak-smoked kippers. From Whin Hill Cottage, you can walk straight into the village centre to enjoy the Jolly Fisherman pub, Robson’s fish shop, and the harbour views.

Dogs and owners alike will love the Dunstanburgh Castle walk, which starts right in Craster and winds along the coast to the dramatic castle ruins. A bit further north lies Embleton Bay, a vast sandy stretch that’s ideal for dog walks off-lead.

For day trips, Alnwick is just 7 miles inland, home to The Alnwick Garden, Alnwick Castle, and independent shops. Howick Hall Gardens and Arboretum, 2 miles south, is another highlight – especially in spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom.
